Some signs that your electrics need replacing...
Electric shocks
If you’ve suffered an electric shock, however small, when plugging an electrical appliance into a socket, it needs to be checked urgently. Similarly, if there’s a buzzing sound from a socket, this can be a sign of electrical damage and should be checked.
Scorched or discoloured sockets or switches
Brown marks on electrical sockets can be the result of tiny fires caused by little arcs of electricity and fire created by loose connections inside the sockets.
Persistent burning smell
If you notice a burning smell that won’t go away, and you can’t identify the source, immediately turn off the power!
Flickering or dimming lights
A single flickering or dimming light is probably just a fault with a bulb, but if you notice regular flickering lights in several different rooms, it could be a sign of electrical problems and should be checked out.
Fuses blow repeatedly
If fuses within the property blow regularly and randomly, it could be a sign your house needs rewiring. However, it could be as simple as a faulty appliance causing the problem. If it keeps happening, then get on the blower!
An old house
FInally, if your house is older than 25 years and you don’t know if it’s been rewired, or the switches, sockets, and fuse box look old, you should get an electrician to have a look.
